This website The Vietnam War - 'Back in Nam' is a part of the America at War project done by Juniors at Da Vinci Charter Academy. Da Vinci Charter Academy is a high school in California that teaches curriculum through project based learning and technology.
The goal of this project is to answer the following four questions:
How does war affect the individual?
How does war affect society?
What is the cost of war?
Can war, with all of its destruction, be beneficial?
Throughout this website we will be answering those four questions through a broad array of medias. First, we have our foreign policy page which gives background information on global issues at the time and how the U.S. got involved in the conflict in Vietnam . Next, a multimedia timeline which gives in-depth information, pictures, videos and audio clips on what happened before, during and after the Vietnam War. We have analysis of several war songs that were created in relation to the war. Within our group we read two different war novels and created movie trailers for the two novels, Fallen Angels and The Things They Carried. Last, we have an interview with a Vietnam War veteran. He talks about his experiences in the war and how he would answer our four questions with his first hand experiences. This project is a culmination of work from our English and United States History class over a five week time period. All in all the America at War project gives students a more in depth look at the effects of war on humanity as well as on politics.
