The Battle Hymn of Lt. Calley
By C-Company
featuring Terry Nelson
This song is neither pro war or anti war, this song is pro soldier. As the language in this song is neither supportive of the war nor against it is saying that you should not judge what a soldier does on the battlefield as his or her real self but that they are given commands to follow. Helping our defeat means that people were trying to stop the war and that they Americans wanted the U.S. to lose. Also the Right to serve my country as the only price I've won signifies that he was happy to serve his country even though he was hated fro what he did under orders. This song does not talk about any specific foreign policy. This song answers how does war affect the individual because even though this man killed many people he dd it because he believed in the orders that he was given and that he was doing the right thing but when he returned he was publicly humiliated and shamed because he only followed orders. I agree with the message of this song and I believe that the message of this song is that even if you do what an authority figure tells you and you do it in confidence that what your doing is right or for the betterment of you or your country others may not see it that way and you may be let down by the system you once believed in.
