Biographic Summary
Mr. Michael Humason was born on November 27, 1948 in Kentfield, California. His father had fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Because of his father's military past when Mr. Humason, got drafted to fight in the Vietnam in 1968, he felt a sense of pride and honor mixed in with the nervousness of going into combat. Mr. Humason went through very intense training in the United States and was made a Sargent before he had even left the country. He was sent to Vietnam in the fall of 1969 and he remained there until June of 1970. During his time in Vietnam he participated in many missions, many of which were very dangerous and experimental, thus his delta troop earned the nickname 'The Dirty Delta'. For his service in Vietnam he earned several medals including the National Service Medal, and the Marshal Expert Badge. He came back from the war with not major injuries, aside from some hearing loss, and began to re-enter into society. At first he had some nightmares but after he talked to his dad about war and how it was like for him readjusting to society he no longer had any. Mr. Humason wrote a book about called The Delta Diaries, which is filled with first hand accounts of what it was like to fight in Vietnam. Even though it's been more than 30 years since the conflict in Vietnam he still keeps in contact with many of his war buddies today.
